This specimen was lot 32009 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2025), where it sold for $2,280. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Baden. 5 Mark, 1895-G. Karlsruhe Mint. Friedrich I. PCGS MS-64. The sole finest example of the date certified by PCGS or NGC, and quite RARE in this near-Gem state. Brilliantly satiny and well-struck, the elegant portrait of Friedrich I rendered in crisp detail." This regular issue five mark was emitted 1891-1902. It is not rare but expensive in nice condition as is the silver two mark.
Recorded mintage: 73,418 plus proofs.
Specification: 27.77 g, 0.900 fine silver, 38 mm diameter, lettered edge.
