Austria 1952 2 groschen rev DSLR.jpg

The specimen shown is an example of a type struck in Austria, 1950-94. This date is common but the proofs are scarce. Austria began minting euros in 2002, rendering this coin obsolete. The old Hapsburg eagle clasped an orb and scepter, symbols of imperial power; the republican eagle holds a hammer and sickle, symbols of the hard work needed to rebuild from the disaster of World War Two.

Recorded mintage: 37,851,000 plus a few proofs.

Specification: 0.9 g, aluminum, 18 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: Herinek 6, KM-2876.
