This type was struck 1952 and 1957. The 1952 is common, the 1957 is scarce. This type was demonetized in February 1961. The old Hapsburg eagle clasped an orb and scepter, symbols of imperial power; the republican eagle holds a hammer and sickle, symbols of the hard work needed to rebuild from the disaster of World War Two.

Recorded mintage: 43,231,000 plus proofs.

Specification: 4 g, aluminum, 31 mm diameter, reeded edge.
