This type was struck 1946-47 and 1952; only the 1952 is scarce. This type was demonetized in June 1957. The old Hapsburg eagle clasped an orb and scepter, symbols of imperial power; the republican eagle holds a hammer and sickle, symbols of the hard work needed to rebuild from the disaster of World War Two.

Recorded mintage: 20,140,000 plus proofs.

Specification: 2.8 g, aluminum, 28 mm diameter, plain edge.
