Austria 1873-A kreuzer
This specimen was lot 74165 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2024), where it sold for $85. The catalog description[1] noted, "AUSTRIA. Kreuzer, 1873-A. Vienna Mint. Franz Joseph I. PCGS MS-65 Red. An exceptional Gem, this stunner displays vibrant red surfaces and scintillating brilliance throughout." This type was struck 1858-63, 1873, 1878-81 in large quantities at Vienna (shown here), Kremnitz ("B"), Karlsburg (mintmark "E"), Milan ("M") and Venice ("V"). One florin was 100 kreuzer. It was made obsolete in 1892 by the introduction of the corona and heller in 1892.
Recorded mintage: 6,000,000, a slightly better date.
