Sincona sale 39, lot 3948

This specimen was lot 3948 in Sincona sale 39 (Zürich, May 2017), where it sold for 200 CHF (about US$240 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"HOLY ROMAN EMPIRE - AUSTRIA, Leopold I. 1657-1705 Taler 1698. Graz. Sehr schön. Henkelspur. (Holy Roman Empire, Leopold I, 1657-1705, thaler of 1698, Graz mint. Very fine. Mount mark.)"

Other Graz thalers included Dav-3233 issued 1690, Dav-3234 issued 1693. It seems unlikely that the emperor was ever called "the Hogmouth" to his face.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver, this specimen 28.39 g.

Catalog reference: Herinek 619, KM 1348.3, Dav-3235.
