Künker Auction 425, lot 1396

This specimen was lot 1396 in Künker Auction 425 (Osnabrück, July 2025), where it sold for €3,200 (about US$4,531 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"HABSBURGISCHE ERBLANDE-ÖSTERREICH · RÖMISCH-DEUTSCHES REICH, Leopold I., 1657-1705. Dukat 1698 (Jahreszahl im Stempel aus 1697 geändert), Wien. Die Vorderseitenumschrift beginnt unten links mit LEOPOLD Æ. GOLD. Unedierter Jahrgang. Min. Schrötlingsfehler, kl. Kratzer, fast vorzüglich. (Holy Roman Empire, Leopold I, 1657-1705, ducat of 1698, Vienna mint, 1698/7 overdate, the obverse legend begins on the left. Unpublished date, planchet flaw, hairlines, about extremely fine.)"

This type is noted for 1660-1705 in Friedberg and 1683-1704 in the SCWC. Despite the many years of issue, it is not common.
