Sincona sale 97, lot 1956

This specimen was lot 1956 in SINCONA Auction 97 (Zürich, May 2025), where it sold for 425 CHF (about US$617 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"RDR / ÖSTERREICH, Ferdinand III. 1637-1657. Taler 1654, Wien. Vorzüglich. Hübsche Patina. Leicht gebogen. (Holy Roman Empire, Ferdinand III, 1637-57, Extremely Fine, Attractively toned, Slightly bent.)"

This type was struck at Vienna 1652-56 in the final years of Ferdinand's reign and is somewhat scarce. Other thalers of 1654 include Dav-3190 (Graz mint), Dav-3367 (archduke Ferdinand Charles) and Dav-3194.
