Austria (1691-92) 1/2 thaler KM-1149
The first specimen was lot 4562 in Künker sale 406 (Osnabrück, March 2024), where it sold for €850 (about US$1,115 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"RÖMISCH-DEUTSCHES REICH, Leopold I. 1657-1705. 1/2 Reichstaler o. J. (1691/1692), Hall. Prachtexemplar. Hübsche Patina, vorzüglich-Stempelglanz. (Austria, Leopold I, 1657-1705, undated half thaler, Hall mint. Cabinet example, handsome patina, extremely fine to uncirculated.)"
The second specimen was lot 144 in Künker Auction 423 (Osnabrück, July 2025), where it sold for €700 (about US$991 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[2] noted,
"HABSBURGISCHE ERBLANDE-ÖSTERREICH · RÖMISCH-DEUTSCHES REICH, Leopold I., 1657-1705. 1/2 Reichstaler o. J. (um 1680), Hall. Mit älteren Gesichtszügen. Geharnischtes Brustbild r. mit Lorbeerkranz, Löwenkopfschulter mit Fransen, umgelegtem Mantel und der Kette des Ordens vom Goldenen Vlies//Gekröntes und verziertes, fünffeldiges Wappen (Ungarn - Böhmen / Österreich-Burgund / Alt-Österreich / Habsburg-Görz), mit Mittelschild (Tirol), umher die Kette des Ordens vom Goldenen Vlies. Vorzüglich Exemplar der Auktion H. D. Rauch 44, Wien 1990, Nr. 3413. (Holy Roman Empire, Leopold I, 1657-1705, undated half thaler, circa 1670, Hall mint, older bust. Obverse: armored, laureate and mantled bust with order chain and fringed lion's head on the shoulder; reverse: crowned ornate manifold arms of Hungary, Bohemia, Austria, Burgundy and Gorizia with escutcheon of Tyrol, Order chain around. Extremely fine.)"
The SCWC attributes this rare issue to 1658. It comes with (KM 1150) or without (shown here) the value below the bust.
