This specimen was lot 23552 in Heritage sale 3015 (Long Beach, September 2011), where it sold for $2,300. The catalog description[1] noted, "Elizabeth II gold 100 Dollars 2001, MS68 PCGS, Year of the Snake." This issue is a typical example of the plethora of commemorative releases of the Canberra mint. This one, one of a series marketed to Asians, follows the Chinese lunar calendar (Year of the Rabbit, Ox, Rat, etc.). It honors the Chinese Year of the Snake and was accompanied by KM 536 (about US$1, 1 oz silver), KM 537 (about US$2, silver 2 oz), KM 538 (about US$5, gold 1/20 oz), KM 539 (about US$10, 10 oz silver), KM 540 (about US$15, gold 1/10 oz), KM 541 (about US$25, gold 1/4 oz), KM 542 (about US$30, 1 kg silver), KM 704/1333 (about US$200, 2 oz gold) and KM 705/1334 (about US$1000, 10 oz gold).

Recorded mintage: 30,000 plus 920 proofs.

Specification: 31.1035 g, 0.999 fine Gold, 0.999 oz. AGW, 32.1 mm diameter, Reeded edge.
