Ponterio sale 168, lot 50308

This specimen was lot 50308 in Ponterio sale 168 (Philadelphia, August 2012), where it sold for $411. The catalog description[1] noted, "AUSTRALIA. 10 Dollars, 2002. Lunar Series, Year of the Horse. In original mint plastic capsule. GEM PROOF." Since 1989, Australia has entered the bullion and collectibles market in a big way, having produced commemoratives and NCLT's numbering the hundreds of types. The year of the horse was also honored on the following:

  • silver half oz coin (KM 579, face value 50 cents),
  • silver one oz coin (KM 580, face value one dollar),
  • silver 2 oz coin (KM 581, face value two dollars),
  • silver 1 kg coin (KM 586, face value 30 dollars),

  • gold 1/10 oz coin (KM 583, face value 15 dollars),
  • gold ¼ oz coin (KM 584, face value 25 dollars),
  • gold 1 oz coin (KM 587, face value 100 dollars),
  • gold 2 oz coin (KM 707 and 1336, face value 200 dollars),
  • gold 10 oz coin (KM 708 and 1337, face value 1000 dollars),
  • gold 1 kg coin (KM 709 and 1338, face value 3000 dollars).

Recorded mintage: 500 proofs plus an unrecorded number of BU strikes.

Specification: 311.03 g, 0.999 Silver, 10 oz ASW, 75.5 mm diameter.
