Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale, lot 73037

This specimen was lot 73037 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2022), where it sold for $690. The catalog description[1] noted, "AUSTRALIA. 200 Dollars, 1989. Elizabeth II. NGC PROOF-70 Ultra Cameo. This beautiful and free from blemish example gives a wonderful mirrored appearance in the fields and copious amounts of frost on the devices." Australia began striking NCLT's of this denomination and module with KM 71 in 1980. Various Australian wildlife were featured until 1994; for some reason, this issue does not appear in the SCWC.

Wikipedia comments, "The frilled lizard (Chlamydosaurus kingii), also known commonly as the frill-necked lizard, frilled dragon or frilled agama, is a species of lizard in the family Agamidae. It is endemic to northern Australia and southern New Guinea. This species is the only member of the genus Chlamydosaurus."
