Australia 1918-M sovereign

from the Stack's Bowers Collector's June 2022 Choice sale, lot 70247

This specimen was lot 70247 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2022), where it sold for $456. The catalog description^[1] noted, "AUSTRALIA. Sovereign, 1918-M. Melbourne Mint. George V. PCGS MS-63. A Choice beauty, this Australian Sovereign is replete with a dancing luster and sharp strike detail." This type, struck 1911-31 at Sydney, Melbourne and Perth, is identical to the ordinary British sovereign in every respect except for the mintmark.
