Australia 1911 6 pence
This specimen was lot 20397 in Heritage sale 3008 (New York, January 2010), where it sold for $690. The catalog description[1] noted, "Australia. George V Sixpence 1911, MS62 NGC, fully lustrous, faint scratch in the left obverse field. Very sharp details on the crown band with every pearl and diamond boldly defined." This type was struck 1911-36 at London (shown here), Heaton, Sydney and Melbourne. The dates prior to the late twenties are available up through Very Fine. Australia maintained the sterling silver standard until 1945, years after Great Britain had debased her coins to 0.500 fine.
