Australia 1912 6 pence
This specimen was lot 22144 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), where it sold for $660. The catalog description[1] noted, "AUSTRALIA. 6 Pence, 1912. PCGS MS-63 Secure Holder. Premium quality for the issue, displaying few marks and dappled tone over intensely lustrous surfaces. Scarce as a date and VERY SCARCE in this alluring condition." This type was struck 1911-36 at London (shown here), Heaton, Sydney and Melbourne. The dates prior to the late twenties are available up through Very Fine. Australia maintained the sterling silver standard until 1945, years after Great Britain had debased her coins to 0.500 fine.
