This specimen was lot 74114 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2023), where it sold for $480. The catalog description[1] noted, "AUSTRALIA. Sovereign, 1912-S. Sydney Mint. George V. PCGS MS-63. A warm honey gold Sovereign with faint hints of rose iridescence, this attractive piece offers superb technical quality for the grade and a bold strike. Ideal for both series specialists and those who would like an unquestionably premium example of the type." This type, struck 1911-31 at Sydney, Melbourne and Perth, is identical to the ordinary British sovereign in every respect except for the mintmark. The Sydney mint, opened in 1855, was closed in 1926, too small and too obsolete.

Recorded mintage: 2,227,000, a common date.

Specification: 7.99 g, 0.917 fine gold, .2354 troy oz AGW, 21 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: S-4003; Fr-38; KM-29.
