Sincona sale 43, lot 4124

This specimen was lot 4124 in Sincona sale 43 (Zürich, October 2017), where it sold for 500 CHF (about US$597 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SWITZERLAND, Appenzell Innerrhoden, 15 Kreuzer 1738. Selten. Sehr schön. (canton of Appenzell, inner Rhoden, fifteen kreuzer of 1738. Rare, Very fine.)"

Appenzell, a small canton surrounded by the canton of St. Gall, struck coins until 1816. This rare type was accompanied by another fifteen kreuzer (KM 35) with a different reverse. The monetary system was 4 pfennig = one kreuzer, 4 kreuzer = one batzen, 10 batzen = one franken.
