Sincona sale 95, lot 4001

This specimen was lot 4001 in Sincona sale 95 (Zürich, October 2024), where it sold for 26,000 CHF (about US$36,036 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Appenzell Innerrhoden, Dukat 1737, Appenzell. Vier Zeilen Schrift sowie Jahreszahl, auf Kartusche mit Engelsköpfchen. Unterhalb der Jahreszahl Mzz. T (für den Stempelschneider Jonas Thiébaud). Rv. Nach rechts stehender hl. Mauritius im Harnisch mit Fahne und ovalem Appenzellerwappen. Unten im Abschnitt Mzz. T. Feiner, leicht schräg gerippter Rand. Selten. Gutes vorzüglich. Kleine Kratzer. (Switzerland, canton of Appenzell, ducat of 1737, Appenzell mint. ObverseL four line inscription in cartouche with angel's head above, date and engraver's initial below; reverse: the armored figure of St. Maurice stands right, supporting the cantonal arms, edge lightly reeded. Rare, About Uncirculated, Small scratches.)"

This ducat, the first gold coin from the canton, is very rare.
