Sincona sale 95, lot 4004

This specimen was lot 4004 in Sincona sale 95 (Zürich, October 2024), where it sold for 325 CHF (about US$451 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Appenzell Innerrhoden, Halbkreuzer 1737, Appenzell. Zwei kleine spanische Wappenschildchen, die sich unten berühren, darüber die Wertzahl zwischen der geteilten Jahreszahl. Rv. Wertangabe mit arabischer 1, der Bruchstrich weist links gegen unten und rechts gegen oben. Selten. Vorzüglich. Dieses Exemplar weist einen erstaunlich hohen Silberanteil auf, wie mehrere Röntgenspektralmessungen der Oberfläche mit 18-20% Silber zeigen. (Switzerland, canton of Appenzell, half kreuzer of 1737, Appenzell mint. Obverse: two small Spanish shields touching at the bottom, above, the value divides the date; reverse: the value. This specimen has a surprisingly high silver content, as several X-ray spectral measurements of the surface show 18-20% silver. Rare, Extremely Fine.)"

This billon type was struck 1737 only and is rare. One thaler was 120 kreuzer.
