Stephen Album sale 50, lot 3598

This specimen was lot 3598 in Stephen Album sale 50 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2024), where it sold for $84. The catalog description[1] noted, "AFGHANISTAN: Amanullah, 1919-1929, AE abbasi, SH"231" (for SH1302), al-ghazi right of the toughra, XF, R, ex Hakim Hamidi Collection." Coins of this period are sometimes dated on the traditional Muslim calendar, or on the Solar Hegira calendar, as here, which starts on the same date as the traditional Hegira calendar but uses solar years rather than lunar years. This denomination was struck SH 1298-1303 and this is the more available of the two varieties, KM 882 not being struck in SH 1302.
