Austria 1865-A ducat Fr-491
This specimen was lot 892 in Sincona Auction 103 (Zürich, May 2026), where it sold for 575 CHF (about US$876 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"RDR / ÖSTERREICH Franz Joseph I. 1848-1916. Dukat 1865 A, Wien. (empire of Austria, Francis Joseph I, 1848-1916, ducat of 1865, Vienna mint. NGC MS61.)"
This type was struck 1860-65 only but is common. Gold ducats were struck throughout Franz Josef's long reign and come in many types. This type is known from Vienna, Kremnitz, Venice and Karlsburg. After the reorganization of the Hapsburg empire into the Dual Monarchy in 1867, Hungary received her own coinage separate from Austrian issues.
