Stack's Bowers May 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction, lot 74266

This specimen was lot 74266 in Stack's Bowers May 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, May 2026), where it sold for $89. The catalog description^[1] noted, "DENMARK. 4 Skilling Lybsk, ND (1624-30). Gluckstadt Mint. Christian IV. NGC VF-25. Wire Money. Closed Crown variety." This and the accompanying four skilling lybsk seem to have been an experiment in striking Russian style wire money. Numista states 4 Skilling Lybsk = 8 Skilling Dansk = 2/21 speciedater. Many varieties exist. The dies were bigger than the planchet (a piece of wire) so most have part of the legends missing.
