This ten cent piece is an early date of a type issued for the Straits Settlements during 1916-27. This type was originally .600 fine (KM 29, 1916-17), then .400 fine (KM 29a, 1918-20) then back to .600 fine (KM 29b, 1925-27). This date is common in all grades. The Straits Settlements began as a miscellaneous group of trading stations in Southeast Asia and gradually developed into what is now Malaya.
