This ten cent piece is the final date of a type issued for the Straits Settlements during 1916-27. This type was originally 0.600 fine (KM 29, 1916-17), then 0.400 fine (KM 29a, 1918-20) then back to 0.600 fine (1925-27). This date is common in all grades. The Straits Settlements began as a miscellaneous group of trading stations in Southeast Asia and gradually developed into what is now Malaya.
