Straits Settlements 1932 1/2 cent
This specimen was lot 1641 in Steve Album sale 16 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2013), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "STRAITS SETTLEMENTS: George V, 1910-1936, AE ½ cent, 1932, one year type, NGC graded MS65 RB." The Straits Settlements began as a miscellaneous group of trading stations in Southeast Asia and gradually developed into what is now Malaya. This one year type was the first half cent issued since 1916 and the last of its denomination. Its unusual shape likely led to its being saving in considerable numbers as it is common today. It is also the last coinage issue of the Straits Settlements, being superseded by coinage for Malaya in 1939 tho it continued to circulate until the 1950's.
Recorded mintage: 5,000,000 plus proofs.
Specification: bronze.
