This specimen was lot 71590 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, October 2020), where it sold for $192. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Weimar Republic. Pfennig, 1928-G. Karlsruhe Mint. PCGS PROOF-66 Red Brown Gold Shield. The only example of the date and mint in the PCGS census, this tremendous proof Gem presents a rather vibrant palette comprised of electrified magenta and cobalt." This type was struck 1924-36 and most dates, including this one, are common. Only the proofs are scarce.
