Peru 1729-L N 8 escudos
This specimen was lot 17 in Sedwick sale 25 (Winter Park, FL, May 2019), where it sold for $5,355. The catalog description[1] noted, "Lima, Peru, cob 8 escudos, 1729N. Choice deep strike with lots of detail (AU-UNC) but traces of mount removal, bold 72 of central date and tail of 9 in legend (scarce date), pleasing yellow color with small spots of orange toning." This type is recorded for 1710-47. The Mexico City mint was converted to milled coinage in 1732-34 but Lima would not follow suit until 1751.
