Heritage sale 3030, lot 23271

This specimen was lot 23271 in Heritage sale 3030 (New York, January 2014), where it sold for $16,450. The catalog description[1] noted, "George V Specimen Dollar 1936, Specimen 67 PCGS, aged gray and gold patina over pristine surfaces, a remarkable example of this rare Specimen Dollar. PCGS: 5 in this grade with none higher. A classic rarity in the Canadian Silver Dollar series. From The MacLeod Collection of Canada Specimen, Proof, and Prooflike Dollars." The SCWC lists this type for 1936 only but large numbers were saved, making it readily available today.

Recorded mintage: 339,600.

Specification: 0.800 fine silver, .600 troy oz ASW, designed by T. H. Paget.
