This specimen was lot 1589 in Stephen Album sale 30 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2018), where it sold for $282. The catalog description[1] noted, "BRITISH WEST AFRICA: George VI, 1937-1952, 1 shilling, 1952, a fantastic example! NGC graded MS67." British West Africa comprised Gambia, Sierra Leone, Gold Coast (now Ghana) and Nigeria. The union broke up in the late fifties as the parts were granted independence. Copper-nickel one-tenth pennies were issued for the region starting in 1907. This type was issued 1949-52 from London, Heaton and King's Norton. This is a common date.
