Ponterio sale 168, lot 40505

This specimen was lot 40505 in Ponterio sale 168 (Philadelphia, August 2012), where it sold for $617. The catalog description[2] noted, "FRANCE. 5 Francs, 1824-A. NGC MS-63. Lustrous with dark toning. NGC MS-63. From the Madeleine Collection." This type was struck 1816-24 in large quantities (104 million total). This specimen, from the Paris mint, is a common date but choice specimens are always in demand.

Recorded mintage: 9,064,043.

Specification: 25 g, 0.900 fine silver, 37 mm diameter, edge lettered DOMINE SALVUM FAC REGEM. Designed by Auguste François Michaut, 1786-1879.
