This specimen was lot 32485 in Heritage Sale 3115 (Chicago, May 2024), where it sold for $2,712. The catalog description[1] noted, "France: Louis XV gold Louis d'Or 1727/6-BB MS63+ NGC, Strasbourg mint. Displaying a visible overdate and adjustment marks, this example boasts ample luster and strong retention of strike details. Some dark toning around the peripherals only serves to enhance the brighter central elements. The grading services have certified only two other examples of this scarce overdate." This type, introduced in 1726 as part of Cardinal Fleury's coinage reform, terminated the constant financial manipulations which had bedeviled the regency period. Its initial face value was 20 livres, which was raised to 24 livres in May 1726. This date obtains a 30% premium over the 1726-A but is otherwise common. The overdate is not mentioned in the SCWC.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 8.16 g, 0.917 fine gold, 22-23 mm diameter, reeded edge, designed by Norbert Roëttiers.

Catalog reference: KM 489.4, Dr/4 № 800, Dr/2 № 540, Fr-461, Dupl-1640; Gad-340.
