Bolivia 1798-PTS PP 2 escudos
This specimen was lot 41061 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Oklahoma City, OK, August 2025), where it sold for $960. The catalog description[1] noted, "BOLIVIA. 2 Escudos, 1798-PTS PP. Potosi Mint. Charles IV. PCGS Genuine--Plugged, Unc Details. An EXTREMELY RARE date in the series; we are unable to find another example in our searches of auction records over the last 25 years. As such, an extraordinary opportunity despite the noted plug near 12 o'clock, and fully detailed with no signs of circulation wear. From the Richard August Collection. Ex: Jim Shipley Collection. Ex: W. Donn Collection." This type was minted 1793-1808 and is scarce to rare, tho less so than the four escudos. The assayer PP appears for 1795-1802. In 1785, the alloy was debased from 0.901 to 0.875 fine gold.
