Künker sale 400, lot 346

This specimen was lot 346 in Künker sale 400 (Berlin, February 2024), where it sold for €26,000 (about US$33,730 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"RÖMISCH-DEUTSCHES REICH, Leopold I. 1657-1705. Reichstaler 1662, GH, Breslau. Wardein Georg Hübner. Geharnischtes und gekröntes Hüftbild r. mit umgelegter Kette des Ordnes vom Goldenen Vlies, Zepter und Reichsapfel//Gekrönter Doppeladler mit Schwert und Zepter in den Fängen, auf der Brust gekröntes, ovales, vielfeldiges Wappen, umher die Kette des Ordens vom Goldenen Vlies. Von großer Seltenheit. Attraktives Exemplar mit feiner Patina, vorzüglich. Exemplar der Auktion Jacques Schulman 231, Amsterdam 1958, Nr. 2026. (Holy Roman Empire, Leopold I, 1657-1705, thaler of 1662, Breslau mint. Obverse: armored and crowned half-length portrait of the emperor with scepter, orb and order chain; reverse: crowned double-headed eagle with sword and scepter in its claws, on its breast crowned oval manifold arms, order chain around. Extremely rare, attractive example with fine patina, extremely fine.)"

This one year type is not priced in the SCWC. Austria lost Silesia to Frederick the Great of Prussia during the War of the Austrian Succession (1740-45).
