Sincona sale 57, lot 2736

This specimen was lot 2736 in Sincona sale 57 (Zürich, May 2019), where it sold for 28,000 CHF (about US$33,320 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"DEUTSCHLAND | Schlesien-Liegnitz-Brieg, Herzogtum, Georg, Ludwig und Christian, 1639-1663. Taler 1661, Breslau. (Reichsapfel) D:G.GEORGIVS.LVDOVICVS.ET.CHRISTIANVS.FRAT: Die geharnischten Hüftbilder der drei Brüder je mit einem Kommandostab in der Hand über einer verzierten Leiste. Rv. *CONSILIUM IEHOVÆ STABIT:AN:1661 Dreifach behelmtes Wappen, unten E-W (Elias Weiss). Von grösster Seltenheit. Vorzügliches Exemplar. Hübsche Patina. (Germany, duchy of Silesia-Liegnitz-Brieg, George, Louis and Christian, 1639-63, thaler of 1661, Breslau mint. Obverse: armored busts of the three brothers holding batons; reverse: triple-helmeted arms, mintmaster's initials below. Of the highest rarity, Extremely fine specimen, Attractive patina.)"

This is one of several extremely similar (Dav-7727, -7729, -7729A, -7731, -7732, -7739) and extremely rare thalers issued by the three brothers. The coinage ceased when the last of the local dukes died in 1675.
