Silesia-Liegnitz-Brieg 1657-EW thaler Dav-7731
This specimen was lot 859 in Sincona sale 6 (Zürich, May 2012), where it sold for 1600 CHF (about US$1,969 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"DEUTSCHLAND Schlesien-Liegnitz-Brieg, Herzogtum Georg, Ludwig und Christian, 1639-1663. Taler 1657, Brieg. Geharnischte Hüftbilder der drei Brüder von vorn. Rv. Dreifach behelmtes gerades Wappen ohne Münzmeisterzeichen E-W. Hksp. Sonst fast vorzüglich. (Duchy of Silisia-Liegnitz-Brieg, George, Louis and Christian, 1639-63, thaler of 1657, Brieg mint. Obverse: armored half-length busts of the three brothers; reverse: triple-helmeted arms with the mintmaster's initials "E-W.", mount mark, choice extremely fine.)"
Silesia is considered a German State even tho the province was then under Austrian rule and is now in Poland. This type, listed for 1657-59, is rare.
