Australia 1912 florin

from the Stack's Bowers 2018 ANA sale, lot 22143

This specimen was lot 22143 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), where it sold for $65. The catalog description^[1] noted, "AUSTRALIA. Florin, 1912. London Mint. PCGS VF-35 Secure Holder. Toned." This type was struck 1911-36 at London (shown here), Heaton, Sydney and Melbourne. The dates prior to the late twenties are scarce, especially in nice condition. Australia maintained the sterling silver standard until 1945, years after Great Britain had debased her coins to 0.500 fine.
