This specimen was lot 31082 in Heritage sale 3105 (New York, January 2023), where it sold for $480. The catalog description[1] noted, "German States: Regensburg. Free City "City View" 1/2 Taler 1775-GCB UNC Details (Obverse Cleaned) NGC, Regensburg mint. With the name and titles of Joseph II. An appreciable 1/2 Taler possessing among the more sophisticated city views for this era, fully articulated and with appropriate perspective. Despite the note qualifier, it is an especially rare occasion that a clearly cleaned coin nonetheless maintains such a palpable visual allure as does the piece seen here. From the Cape Coral Collection, Part II." This half thaler was struck 1775 but is not mentioned as rare, so it must have been saved. A half thaler of 1774 (KM 422) shows a more competent bust of the emperor. Regensburg was absorbed into Bavaria during the Napoleonic mediatizations.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 14.03 g, 0.833 fine silver.

Catalog reference: KM 427, Beck-7204.
