Jean Elsen sale 142, lot 1447

This specimen was lot 1447 in Jean Elsen sale 142 (Brussels, September 2019), where it sold for €240 (about US$312 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"ITALIE, NAPLES, Charles III de Bourbon (1734-1759), AR demi-piastre (60 grana), 1752. D/ B. cuir. à d., les cheveux longs. R/ Grand écu couronné. Très Beau. (kingdom of Naples, Charles III, 1734-59, silver half piastra of 1752. Obverse: armored bust right with long hair; reverse: large crowned arms. Very Fine.)"

As 120 grana constituted one piastra or dollar, sixty grana was about half a dollar. This type was struck 1750-54 while Charles, future king of Spain, was king of Naples.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver; this specimen is 12,52 g.

Catalog reference: KM C22, P.& R. 41; G. 41.
