Schulman auction 379, lot 539

This specimen was lot 539 in Schulman auction 379 (Amsterdam, June 2024), where it sold for €260 (about US$334 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"UTRECHT Provincie 1581 - 1795. 1/2 Dukaton of 1/2 zilveren rijder. 1787, Silver Type II. Ruiter naar rechts boven gekroond provinciewapentje en titel ...BELG: PRO: TRAI. Kz. jaartal onder het wapen in cartouche. Kabelrand. Donkere patina. Bijna prachtig. (province of Utrecht, half ducaton or silver rider of 1774, type II. Obverse: Mounted knight charges to right over the provincial arms, no mintmark; reverse: crowned arms, date in cartouche; cabled edge. Dark toning, about extremely fine.)"

This date is known only with a reeded edge (struck 1761-94) as the flowered edge (KM 115.2) was discontinued in 1776. A few half ducatons were struck in gold in 1774 (KM 115.1a).

Specification: 16.39 g, 0.941 fine silver, this specimen 16.14 g.
