from the Stack's Bowers 2024 ANA sale, lot 42017

This specimen was lot 42017 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Chicago, August 2024), where it sold for $1,200. The catalog description[1] noted, "AUSTRIA. 1/4 Kreuzer, 1851-G. Nagybanya Mint. Franz Joseph. PCGS MS-64 Red Brown. A KEY DATE, and especially RARE in so fine a state of preservation; the sole finest example certified by either PCGS or NGC by two full grade points." The Nagybanya mint also struck half and one kreuzer in 1851. This type was also struck at Vienna ("A") and Kremnitz ("B"). One convention thaler was 120 kreuzer.
