Áureo y Calicó sale 345, lot 564

This specimen was lot 564 in Áureo y Calicó sale 345 (Barcelona, March 2020), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,

"1784. Carlos III. Sevilla. V. 4 escudos.. Leves marquitas. Bella. Parte de brillo original. Muy rara y más así. EBC. (kingdom of Spain, Charles III, four escudos of 1784, light marks, handsome, part of the original luster, very rare, extremely fine.)"

Two assayers are listed for Seville in 1784, C and V, of which V (shown here) is much the scarcer. In 1786, the fineness was lowered to 0.875 and several years of large issues followed.

Specification: 13.53 g, 0.901 fine gold, .392 troy oz AGW, this specimen 13,47 g.
