Heritage sale 3029, lot 31801

This specimen was lot 31801 in Heritage sale 3029 (New York, January 2014), where it sold for $258.50. The catalog description^[1] noted, "Carl XIV Johan 1/4 Skilling 1828, MS64 Red Brown NGC. A choice example with fully struck details and plenty of mint red. Very scarce in this superior grade. Ex: 'Colonel' E.H.R. Green; Green Estate' Partnership of Eric P Newman/B.G. Johnson." Prior to the reform of 1830, 48 skilling = one riksdaler. This is a common date of a type struck 1819-30. The denomination was terminated in 1833.
