Sweden 1719 ore
This specimen was lot 3687 in Stephen Album sale 39 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2021), where it sold for $132. The catalog description[1] noted, "SWEDEN: Ulrika Eleonora, 1718-1720, AE ore, 1719, struck over 1718 Emergency issue Mercurius daler (KM-361), periphery a bit weak on overstrike, VF, ex Dr. John Lund Collection." The öre was normally a billon denomination about the weight of a half dime (KM 250b, KM 381, KM 382). The bankrupt government, having no silver but plenty of copper emergency dalers which it had just repudiated, used them to strike these to the koppar mynt standard. They come with plain edges (KM 384.1), lozenged edges (KM 384.2) and reeded edges (KM 384.2). The emergency dalers were also recycled to make half öre of the silber mynt standard (KM 380).
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: copper, 7.2 g.
Catalog reference: KM-364.2, SM-24b.
