Goldberg sale 104, lot 3470
France G104-3470r.jpg

This specimen was lot 3470 in Goldberg sale 104 (Los Angeles, June 2018), where it sold for $1,800. The catalog description[1] noted, "France. 655,957 Francs, 1999. Europa. 2000 mintage. NGC graded Proof 70 Ultra Cameo." Starting in the 1980's, the Paris mint issued so many NCLT's that the standard catalogs had to drop them to keep the books a manageable size. This one was struck to promote the changeover from the franc to the euro. The face value of 655.957 francs = 100 euro.

Recorded mintage: 2,000 proofs.

Specification: 31.10 g, .999 fine gold, 1 troy oz AGW.

Catalog reference: KM-1257.
