This specimen is a common date of a series struck 1869-90 at the Mexico City mint. This 25 centavos piece replaced the two reales struck since colonial times. The second specimen was lot 9118 in Ponterio sale 159 (Baltimore, March 2011), where it sold for $184. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Mexico City. 25 Centavos, 1886-MoM. Light toning. BRILLIANT UNCIRCULATED."
