Italy 1995 50 lire rev DSLR.jpg

The specimen shown is from a type struck in Rome for Italy 1990-95. It is a reduced size version of the fifty lire struck 1954-89 (KM 95.1). Despite a sincere attempt by engraver Guiseppe Romagnoli to produce a handsome design, the stainless steel fabric, with its dull color and low relief, defeated his efforts. The denomination was converted to copper-nickel for 1996-2001 (KM 183).

Recorded mintage: 82,000,000 plus 7,960 proofs.

Specification: 2.73 g, stainless steel, 17 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM 95.2.
