The hundred lire, which had long been a stainless steel coin (KM 96.1), was reduced in weight in 1990 (KM 96.2) and converted to copper-nickel in 1993 (KM 159). This commemorative honored the fiftieth anniversary of the F.A.O.; no regular issue 100 lire were struck that year.
Recorded mintage: 100,000,000 plus 7,800 proofs.
Specification: 4.53 g, aluminum bronze, reeded edge, 22 mm diameter.
