Austria (1646) 2 thaler Dav-3363
This specimen was lot 5269 in Sincona sale 4 (Zürich, October 2011), where it sold for 1,700 CHF (about US$2,261 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"ÖSTERREICH Erzherzog Ferdinand Karl, 1632-166 Doppeltaler o. J. (1646), Hall. Geharnischtes Brustbild mit Löwenkopfschulter nach rechts. Rv. Gekrönter, links blickender Adler, den Kopf in einem Lorbeerkranz. Vorzüglich. (Austria, archduke Ferdinand Charles, 1632-66, double thaler without date, Hall mint. Obverse: armored bust with lion's head mantle to right; reverse: crowned eagle with head in laurel wreath. Extremely fine.)"
This is one of the few double thalers of this prince, who never attained the imperial crown. It is possible that it was struck for several years as it is only scarce, not rare.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: silver, this specimen 57,13 g.
