Künker sale 353, lot 3895

This specimen was lot 3895 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €700 (about US$974 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich Wilhelm II. 1786-1797. Reichstaler preuß. 1789, A, Berlin. Vorzüglich. Erworben im Mai 1974. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick William II, 1786-97, thaler of 1789, Berlin mint. Extremely fine.)"

This type was struck at Berlin (shown here), Breslau and Königsberg 1786-90. These coins saw hard use and are frequently found heavily worn. As they were only 0.750 fine, they were spent and the issues of other principalities hoarded.

Recorded mintage: 558,802.

Specification: 22.27 g, 0.750 fine silver, this specimen 22.14 g.

Catalog reference: KM 348.1, Dav-2597, J. 23; Olding 1.
