Künker sale 406, lot 3971

This specimen was lot 3971 in Künker sale 406 (Osnabrück, March 2024), where it sold for €1,300 (about US$1,706 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich Wilhelm II. 1786-1797. Friedrichs d'or 1789, A, Berlin. GOLD. Sehr seltener Jahrgang. Fast sehr schön. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick William II, 1786-97, frederick d'or of 1789, Berlin mint. Very rare date, about very fine.)"

This type was struck in Berlin and Breslau 1786-97 and is the only friedrichs d'or of this ruler. These coins saw hard use and are frequently found heavily worn.
